Tomorrow I fly to Paris.
My travel outfit is hanging on the door ready to go.
Bags are all packed.
I am ready.
And I'm excited.
And yet . . .
There are things to be concerned about.
First stop - Charlotte Airport.
While the Trump administration dispatched ICE agents to 13 major airports on Monday, Charlotte has been skipped over — for now.
Wait times in Charlotte Douglas Airport TSA lines, as of this morning, were about 30 minutes.
"President Trump is using the ICE airport deployments as leverage to pressure Democrats into approving full DHS funding without reforms to ICE operations. He announced the move on March 20-22 as a direct threat tied to the funding standoff, blaming Democrats for the partial shutdown affecting TSA pay.
The Dept. of Homeland Security shutdown is now in its 37th day. Senate Majority Leader, John Thune, reached a deal with Democrats to fund DHS except for ICE. Thune reportedly presented the deal to Trump on Sunday, at the urging of his Senate Republicans colleagues and even White House aides, and Trump REJECTED it. . ."
I have been, admittedly, concerned about the lines. Who wants to miss a flight?!
But I am more concerned about the presence of ICE.
They scare me. They scare everyone.
I hope I'm wrong.
I'll keep you posted.
In the meantime, some recommended reading -
