Amsterdam

Donald and I both love Amsterdam.

But this time we stayed in a different neighborhood - one a little more residential in the wonderful Jordaan District with lots of galleries, shops, restaurants and neighborhood bars - and it made us fall in love with a whole "new to us" Amsterdam.

We didn't have near the traffic or wild and crazy bicycles zoom zooming by us as we had in the past.  Still a lot of bicycles, of course, considering more than 90% of the citizens own bicycles and use them as their #1 mode of transportation.

Our apartment was steps away from the Houseboat Museum and being on one of the canals was delightful.

The three windows over the awning are our apartment windows

Our terrace

Our view

More of our view

Courtyard in front of our apartment

Coffeeshop Johnny - across the street from our apartment

Coffeeshop Johnny Pastries

More pastries up the street from our apartment

And - - - a little bit of hail while we were having apple pie

And then it cleared . . .

and we took a walk around our neighborhood.

And it was COLD!  So we stopped at a little souvenir shop for hats, hoodies and gloves!

and hot chocolate!

More tomorrow!

How was the hot chocolate? And, that one with the cherubs and the skull is kind of creepy.

Great pictures! We love Amsterdam. We visited three times in the '70s and stayed in the same area. Great food and museums too.
